Everyday

Over at Sticky Fingers the topic of the week is "Everyday".

I have a job that's full of everyday tasks, you know - the tasks that you don't jump up & down with joy about but you know they are essential to the job.  Everyday I answer the phone, send emails, make lists, check materials, proof-read... the list could go on, but that wouldn't make a very interesting blog post!

I'm really lucky, in addition to my job being full of everyday tasks Every Day is different, I never know what will happen next.  In a classroom with teenagers - that was a couple of weeks ago.  In a classroom with primary children - that's almost every other week!  Recruiting, training, supervising volunteers, filling in when the volunteers have to pull out; fundraising; accounts - there's a little bit of everything in there.  And then along comes a day that is anything but everyday, one of those days when you really know that Every Day is different.  Look at what I was doing today:

Yep!  I got to play with fabric and my sewing machine all in the name of work!  How cool is that? I get to play at work.  It was one of those "Every day is different and you never know what will happen next" moments when I was asked to make this.  Initially I wasn't very happy - when was I going to have time, panicking in case I did it wrong...  Over the last few weeks I worked out a plan, ordered the fabric and set to work last Thursday with the finishing touches this morning.  At lunch time I took it to show the team of A'Level students it is for.  They love it!  Phew!

Not every day is like that, there are plenty that contain only everyday tasks, but today I really loved my job.

  1. Must be good to have a job that isn't always predictable, that can change from day to day. Mine used to be like that too. Definitely keeps you on your toes! Your sewing project looks fun and colourful - intrigued to know what it is? x
